So I bought another one...

When I bought 1Bex, my SWB Ibex, it was already built and on the road. I was actually intending to order a kit, and had been making plans to build a 100" Hardtop, when 1Bex came up for sale. Since I was ludicrously busy with work at the time, I knew I wouldn't start build for a year or more, buying a known vehicle (it belonged to a friend) made much more sense.

The urge to build one has always been there though. I've toyed with the idea of building the new Ibex F8, and I've always kept an eye out for other Ibex coming up for sale. When this one appeared on ebay, I had to give it some serious thought. It wasn't the first time we had crossed paths - I had actually been to look it over a few years previously when a friend had been interested in buying it.

After watching it on ebay for weeks, I gave in to the inevitable and broke open the piggy bank...

Axles, engine, gearbox and transfer box were all part of the deal, all sourced from the same 300Tdi 110, along with a huge collection of parts to be sorted through.

Long term the intention is for 2Bex to be a mini camper, a vehicle I can sleep inside of when desired, instead of needing to set up a ground tent or a roof tent. It has a four door body, but the rear window apertures have not been cut, so they are more like the side doors of a van at present, ideal for the purpose.

Now just the small matter of finding the time (and money!!) to get it built...
